Dental bridges, available at our practice near Woodinville, can be a great solution for our restorative dentistry patients who need to fill in the gaps caused by missing or damaged teeth. With a dental bridge, a false tooth is rooted between two healthy teeth with the help of porcelain crowns. After a pontic, or false tooth, is fashioned and customized for the patient’s mouth, the healthy teeth to which the pontic will be attached are prepared to receive porcelain crowns. The preparation process involves adjusting the size and shape of the teeth to allow for the additional width and depth of the crowns. After the crowns are in place, the pontic is inserted and fused between them with a unique dental cement.
Below are a few frequently asked questions we hear from patients interested in dental bridges:
Q:Is there more than one type of dental bridge?
A: Yes; a fixed dental bridge is used when there are healthy teeth on either side of the missing tooth, but sometimes there is only one tooth available to support the bridge. In this situation, a cantilever bridge is often the best option. With a cantilever bridge, the pontic is attached to two crowns placed side-by-side next to the missing tooth space. A third type of dental bridge offered at our practice near Woodinville is the LAVA bridge. This is generally preferred for replacing front teeth, and all metal attachments are covered by tooth-colored resin.
Q:How long do dental bridges last?
A: Dental bridges are incredibly durable, and with proper oral hygiene can last as many as 10 years. However, they are not permanent, and require regular maintenance and eventual replacement.
Q: If I have multiple or extensive tooth loss, what options do I have besides dental bridges?
A: When Pearl Dental patients have extensive tooth loss which might not be best resolved by a dental bridge, there are several other options available to them. Dr. Jazaeri or Dr. Niazi might recommend full or partial dentures, or dental implants. Each of these treatments has benefits and drawbacks, and it is important to consult with our experienced dentists to decide which dental bridge is right for you.
Drills, needles, root canals, tooth extractions – there are many factors that can contribute to a debilitating dread of going to the dentist. Unfortunately, many people with dental phobias choose to avoid visiting the dentist altogether, which often leads to severe tooth decay and uncorrected oral health problems. When left unchecked, even the strongest teeth can become considerably damaged. However, today there is a way to resolve dental phobias: sedation dentistry. Performed at our Bothell office by our highly skilled dentists, this advanced dental technique is safe, simple, and effective.
If you have struggled with dental phobias, there are numerous benefits to receiving sedation dentistry from our Bothell practice. Whether you need a tooth removed, endodontic therapy, or even a routine cleaning, this treatment improves the quality of personalized care we can provide to each of our patients. Using a combination of oral sedatives, our doctors can help even the most anxious patients to remain calm and relaxed as they have their dental procedure done. Sedation dentistry patients are kept in a semi-conscious state, which means that they are somewhat aware of what the doctor is doing, but feel nothing.

Inlays and onlays are forms of indirect fillings – used when a tooth is very badly damaged or decayed, but not so much that a crown is required – and can be made of porcelain to match the natural coloring of real teeth. They are sometimes even preferred over traditional fillings because they can provide additional strength to the damaged tooth.
An inlay fits inside the tooth and covers the space between the cusps; onlays cover a larger amount of outer surface area, and usually cover one or more cusps. Completing the inlay/onlay procedure takes just two appointments with our restorative dentists. When patients have extensive tooth loss, one excellent option for replacing missing teeth is a set of dentures. Dentures are removable sets of teeth which are made of a special resin and customized to fit the natural contours of the mouth. There are two main types of removable dentures: full and partial.
Full dentures, also known as “complete dentures”, are used to replace all the teeth in the mouth. They can be either “conventional” or “immediate”. Conventional full dentures are not put into the mouth until a month after all remaining teeth have been removed; this allows the gums to heal, and generally leads to fewer adjustments of the dentures themselves. Immediate full dentures are placed as soon as the teeth are removed.
Partial dentures are used to replace only a few select teeth and prevent healthy teeth from shifting position in the mouth. Removable partial dentures can be attached to the teeth with specialized metal clasps or with precision attachments, a type of device that is less visible than conventional clasps.

When a combination of severe tooth decay, bite and jaw problems, and periodontal damage occurs in a single mouth, the results can be physically and aesthetically painful. A full-mouth reconstruction draws from a multitude of available cosmetic and restorative procedures to repair the structure and appearance of the entire mouth. Teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, and dental implants may all be used during a full-mouth reconstruction, as well as various other dental treatments. If you think you might be an excellent candidate for a full-mouth reconstruction, contact Pearl Dental Center right away.
